Mr. Tatum’s interest in philanthropy and community service was motivated by his uncle’s athletic accomplishments which fueled his own early track achievements while attending Boston English High School (BEHS), the oldest public high school in America established in 1821. In 1950, William D. Tatum, running for Boston English High School, was named “Goose” on defeating forty-one runners at the annual 2 1⁄2 mile cross country race held between Greater Boston High Schools.
